Word's built-in translation vs TopCopilot
Built-in translation unavailable or failing on long documents? See Word translation troubleshooting for Word 2016 and service access errors; for a 129-page test, see the troubleshooting article 。
| Aspect | Word: Review → Translate | TopCopilot sidebar |
|---|---|---|
| Long documents (e.g. 100+ pages) | Service access errors may occur; often requires splitting into smaller files | Full-document translation processes paragraphs in the sidebar without manually splitting and merging files |
| Formatting preservation | Full-document translation opens a copy in a new window; merging split documents is manual | Writes back into the original document while preserving lists, tables and more as far as possible |
| Bilingual comparison | Full-document translation opens a new window, making paragraph-by-paragraph comparison inside the original difficult | Choose Bilingual to insert translations below the original text |
| Translation font | Translation font cannot easily be specified consistently | Choose a translation font in advanced settings; follows the original by default |
| Terminology consistency | No built-in glossary | Glossaries keep translated terms consistent |
| Installation and cost | Included with Office, depending on the version | Free trial + subscription allowance (see pricing) |
